Kasauli is the closest proper hill station to Chandigarh and an easy weekend from Delhi. There is not much to tick off, which is the point: walk the Upper and Lower Mall, watch the sun set from Sunset Point, and eat well. The cantonment keeps building low and the town quiet.
Highlights
- Christ Church, from 1844
- Sunset Point and the Mall walks
- Monkey Point, inside the Air Force area (carry ID)
- Gilbert Trail through the pines
- Day trip to the Timber Trail cable car at Parwanoo
What to eat
- Breakfast at the old Kasauli bakeries
- Himachali dham at local restaurants
Where to stay
Small hotels and heritage cottages in the town; bigger resorts on the Dharampur and Garkhal side.
Getting there
Kasauli is about 1.5 hours from Chandigarh airport and railway station, and about 6 hours by road from Delhi. Kalka, the start of the Shimla toy train, is the nearest station.
Tips
- Monkey Point is inside an Air Force station: photography is not allowed and you need photo ID.
- Weekends get busy with Chandigarh and Delhi traffic; stay midweek if you can.
