Golden Triangle itinerary (Delhi-Agra-Jaipur)

The Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra and Jaipur) is the classic first trip to India: three very different cities, each 3-5 hours apart.

The 6-day plan

Day 1-2: Delhi. Old Delhi food walk, Jama Masjid and Red Fort; Humayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar and Lodhi Garden.

Day 3: Delhi → Agra. Morning fast train (Gatimaan or Vande Bharat) or a 3-4 hour drive on the Yamuna Expressway. Agra Fort and Mehtab Bagh at sunset.

Day 4: Agra → Jaipur. Taj Mahal at sunrise, then drive to Jaipur via Fatehpur Sikri and the Chand Baori stepwell at Abhaneri.

Day 5-6: Jaipur. Amber Fort early, Hawa Mahal, City Palace and Jantar Mantar; sunset at Nahargarh; bazaars.

Return to Delhi by train, road (about 4-5 hours) or fly onwards from Jaipur.

Car or train?

A car with driver is easiest door-to-door and lets you stop at Fatehpur Sikri and Abhaneri. Trains are faster between Delhi and Agra. Many travellers mix both.
