Goa

Living in Goa

India’s favourite place for remote workers and retirees: beaches, a relaxed pace and a big international community.

Goa offers a slower life: beach towns, Portuguese villages and a lively food and music scene. Internet and services have improved a lot, but it’s seasonal: the monsoon is quiet and many businesses close.

Neighbourhoods to know

  • Assagao & Siolim (North): Villas, cafés, creative community.
  • Panaji & Porvorim: Capital, practical services, hospitals.
  • Candolim & Calangute: Busy, tourist-oriented.
  • South Goa (Colva, Benaulim, Palolem): Quieter, beachy, family-friendly.

Pros

  • Relaxed lifestyle
  • Big remote-work and expat community
  • Two airports

Cons

  • Seasonal economy
  • Limited corporate jobs
  • Healthcare is good in Panaji but thinner elsewhere

Tips for newcomers

  • Rent for a full year, not just the high season.
  • Check backup power and internet before committing.

Before you move

Read our guides to moving to India, renting, FRRO registration and, for NRIs, returning to India.

We compare costs relatively rather than quoting rents, which change quickly and vary street by street. Check current listings on property portals before you budget.
